Entrusting the Critical Control of their Freezer Equipment to ADAM, and Lowering their Cost of Operation

Farmfoods are one of Scotlands’s fastest growing businesses - with over 300 sites. As a leading UK Retail Brand they focus on providing exceptional quality and value.
Each retail site is typically between 6000 and 9000 sq ft. The energy consumption of the company’s estate is considerable - and relatively unique. Over 70% of their stock is stored in and sold from freezer cabinets: the correct and efficient control of the freezer equipment is crucial in maintaining the quality of their perishable stock.

Working with UESL, Farmfoods wanted to lower the costs associated with running their retail network. UESL were able to provide critical business information to direct their investment. After an extensive analysis, Farmfoods invited ADAM to provide their unique Wireless Building Energy Management System (BEMS).
The criteria were clear:
- Reduce energy consumption by at least 10%;
- Control all freezer equipment - their largest energy consuming energy device;
- Provide a payback of less than 18 months; and
- Provide remote access to all sites to sustain the savings.
By installing their Wireless BEMS, ADAM provided:
- Control: Lighting, Freezers, all Heating devices and Fresh Air intake;
- A Quicker Payback: ADAM provided a faster payback than the customer’s expectation;
- Cost Reduction: ADAM reduced both energy consumption and unplanned maintenance callouts; and
- Sustainability: UESL manage and monitor all installations to increase and sustain savings.
Result: 17 month Payback
After nine months, ADAM have delivered a broad and compelling business case. All critical business case objectives were achieved: Furthermore, Farmfoods enjoyed a payback of 17 months. Across 11 stores, ADAM saved Farmfoods an average of 11.9% on their energy consumption.
